Summary: Brief Clear is designed to process and store scanned documents locally on the user’s device. This website uses no advertising, analytics, tracking pixels, or marketing cookies.
1. Controller
The controller responsible for this website and for personal data processed directly by the developer in connection with support requests is:
Neo SchulzSchleusenstraße 4c

Email: Neo.schulz@icloud.com
2. Scope
This Privacy Policy applies to the Brief Clear iOS application, this support website, and direct communications with the developer. It explains what information may be processed, why it is processed, and what choices are available.
3. Website hosting and server logs
This static website is hosted using Cloudflare Pages, a service provided by Cloudflare, Inc., 101 Townsend Street, San Francisco, California 94107, USA. When the website is accessed, technical data may necessarily be processed to deliver and secure the website. This may include the visitor’s IP address, date and time of access, requested resource, browser and operating-system information, referrer information, and security-related request data.
The legal basis is the legitimate interest in securely and reliably providing the website (Article 6(1)(f) GDPR). Cloudflare may process information in countries outside the European Economic Area. Where required, such transfers are based on recognized safeguards. Further information is available in Cloudflare’s own privacy documentation.
This website does not intentionally set non-essential cookies, use analytics, display advertising, embed social-media trackers, or create user profiles.
4. Data processing in the Brief Clear app
4.1 Documents, images, and recognized text
Documents selected or captured by the user, document images, recognized text, summaries, action items, deadlines, favorites, and related metadata are intended to be processed and stored locally on the user’s device. The developer does not receive these documents through the normal operation of the app.
Users control which documents they import, scan, retain, archive, or delete. Deleting the app may remove locally stored app data, subject to the behavior of iOS backups and device settings.
4.2 On-device analysis
Text recognition and document analysis are designed to use Apple system technologies available on the device. Brief Clear does not require a Brief Clear account and does not send document contents to a developer-operated server for analysis.
4.3 No professional advice
Document recognition and automated explanations may be incomplete or inaccurate. The app is an organizational aid and does not provide legal, tax, financial, medical, or other professional advice. Users should verify all important information against the original document.
5. Device permissions
5.1 Camera
Camera access is requested only when the user chooses to scan a document. Images captured for Brief Clear are used to perform the requested document workflow.
5.2 Photo library
Photo-library access is requested when the user chooses to import an image. The app accesses only content selected or otherwise authorized by the user under iOS permission controls.
5.3 Notifications
If enabled, local notifications may be scheduled on the device to remind the user about deadlines or subscription-related events. Notification permission can be changed at any time in iOS Settings. Notification content is generated locally.
5.4 Calendar
If the user chooses to add a deadline to Apple Calendar, calendar access may be requested. Brief Clear uses this access only to perform the requested calendar action. Calendar permission can be revoked in iOS Settings.
6. Purchases and subscriptions
Brief Clear Pro subscriptions and free-trial eligibility are processed by Apple through the App Store and StoreKit. The developer does not receive full payment-card details. Apple may provide transaction status, product identifier, entitlement status, expiration information, and related purchase data needed to unlock and maintain subscription access.
Apple processes purchase information under Apple’s own privacy policy and contractual terms. Subscription management, cancellation, billing, refunds, and restoration are handled through the user’s Apple account and the App Store.
7. Analytics, advertising, and diagnostics
Based on the current app design, Brief Clear does not use third-party advertising SDKs, cross-app tracking, or developer-operated analytics services. If this changes, this Privacy Policy and the App Store privacy disclosures will be updated before the relevant functionality is released.
Apple may independently collect diagnostics or App Store usage information according to the user’s Apple settings and Apple’s policies. Such processing is controlled by Apple.
8. Support communications
If a user contacts the developer by email, the information contained in the message—including email address, message content, and attachments—is processed to respond to the request. The legal basis is Article 6(1)(b) GDPR where the request concerns the app or a contractual relationship, and otherwise Article 6(1)(f) GDPR based on the legitimate interest in responding to inquiries.
Users should avoid sending sensitive document contents unless necessary for support. If screenshots or documents are provided voluntarily, they will be used only to address the request.
9. Retention and deletion
- Local app data: retained on the device until the user deletes individual content or removes the app, subject to device backups.
- Support emails: retained only as long as reasonably necessary to resolve the request, document the communication, or meet legal obligations.
- Website server data: retention is determined in part by Cloudflare’s service configuration and security requirements.
- Purchase records: retained by Apple and, where visible to the developer, only as needed to validate entitlement and comply with legal obligations.
10. Legal bases
Depending on the context, processing may rely on performance of a contract or pre-contractual steps (Article 6(1)(b) GDPR), compliance with legal obligations (Article 6(1)(c) GDPR), legitimate interests (Article 6(1)(f) GDPR), or consent (Article 6(1)(a) GDPR), particularly where an iOS permission requires an affirmative user choice.
11. Recipients and processors
Personal data may be processed by service providers only where necessary. Relevant recipients may include Cloudflare for website delivery and security, Apple for App Store distribution, purchases, operating-system services, and optional Apple services selected by the user, and email providers used to receive support messages.
12. Rights under the GDPR
Subject to applicable law, users may have rights to access, rectification, erasure, restriction, data portability, and objection. Where processing is based on consent, consent may be withdrawn for the future. A complaint may also be lodged with a competent data-protection supervisory authority.
Requests concerning data controlled by the developer can be sent to Neo.schulz@icloud.com. The developer may need to verify the requester’s identity. For information stored only on the user’s device, the developer generally cannot access or remotely delete that information; users can manage it directly in the app or on the device.
13. Children
Brief Clear is not directed specifically at children. Users who are not legally able to enter into a subscription or provide relevant consent should use the app only with authorization from a parent or legal guardian.
14. Security
Reasonable technical and organizational measures are used to protect information handled by the developer. No system can guarantee absolute security. Users should protect their device with a passcode, keep iOS updated, and avoid sharing sensitive documents through unsecured channels.
15. Changes to this policy
This Privacy Policy may be updated to reflect changes in the app, website, service providers, or legal requirements. The current version will be published on this page with an updated revision date.
